SPELT BISCUITS

2 cups Maverick spelt flour                     4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar                                  ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
¼ teaspoon salt                                       ½ cup shortening
½ cup milk

In a large bowl mix spelt flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the milk and stir to form dough. Pat dough onto floured surface. Cut with a biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
